I have a Dream

I have a dream and I'm slowly making my way to fulfilling it. The whole idea is still under careful construction but I already made the first of the many steps that would take me to where I wanted to be.

I hope you show some support to my new baby - a new blog that is very close to my heart and I hope would be close to yours as well.

I will never be a perfect mother and I can only pray to be good enough for my son and would be kids but like other moms, I believe that I am doing the best I could for my family and for that I believe I am super. Hence the birth of my new blog:

Preparing the Weekly Menu

I am not domesticated. Well, when it comes to the kitchen at least. I admit that I don't have the confidence to take full control of the cooking, I don't trust my taste buds really well if it would be me preparing dishes for the family. Yeah, I suck at cooking that's why my MIL is the one in-charge of the kitchen.

A few days ago, hubby made it known that I even suck at planning what to cook. You see, I list down the stuff that MIL should buy from the market and it usually consists of ingredients for the same dishes every week. The other day hubby told me he's done with having Adobo every single week. He said he already had enough Adobo that his system might be running on soy sauce instead of blood. Funny. Ha. Ha.

So, I promised I will prepare a weekly menu of varying dishes and will not repeat a dish at least a month after it has been served. I browsed CasaVeneracion.com and so far, I have made two-weeks worth of menu. I copied the recipes on a word document and printed them out for MIL.

I only hope I could keep this up and that I don't run out of dishes to serve or else hubby might run away from me already. =)

Babywearing and a Wish for a Mei Tai

I love wearing Johan. It is so convenient because my hands are free for everything else and I think we grew closer together because of it.

We used the RJellyBean's Ring Sling at home when he was a few months old.

Personally, I find the ring sling hard to use with all the adjustments I had to make. It's easy to put in the baby, though, but, adjusting and readjusting the sling is just too much for me.

We used the Chicco Carrier a couple of times. I found it uncomfortable for me and Johan because the material is too stiff and I can't put Johan in and out of the carrier without help from another person.

See You at the Grand Prix - JOHNSON’s My Kid’s Growing Up So Fast Contest

I still can’t believe that Johan already turned one. It was not so long ago when I was still cradling him in my arms to put him to sleep. Now, I can barely carry him and whenever I do he’s always wanting to be let go.

He loves being in his walker. Every time we put him in it, he immediately zooms past us and goes back and forth as if saying, “Look at how fast I can go, Mommy!”



Recently, he’s grown a fascination with cars, well, give him anything with a steering wheel and he’ll instantly develop a some kind of a relationship with it.

With the combination of his speed whenever he’s in his walker and this growing love for cars, I get the feeling that we’ll be seeing ourselves facing the tracks in the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix sometime in the future!

He is changing before my eyes but his skin is still like a baby’s. We still need the gentle care of JOHNSON’s Baby Milk, with Vitamins A & E and 100% more milk proteins to nourish developing skin.

First Haircut

Hubby and I have this ongoing conversation about Johan's hair. He wanted to shave off our baby's hair but I was so against the idea. I don't think a shaved head would suit Johan and in the end hubby agreed with me.

Yesterday, on Johan's exact birthday, we decided to let him have his first haircut. We went to a nearby mall where the only kiddie salon we know is located. Unfortunately, Johan fell asleep along the way and was still sleeping when we arrived. We had to walk a little bit until he finally woke up but we still had to condition him so he'll be in a good mood when he meets his barber. When he's already in a playful mood, we headed to the salon.

It was a small yet bright place fit for kids. There were a couple of cars that serve as kiddie seats with a small lcd screen where the kids can watch videos to distract them while the barber does his job. There is also a small play area by the entrance should the kids want to play and an array of toys are on the shelves. 

I was worried that Johan might throw a tantrum and refuse the barber touch his hair. But, he instantly became preoccupied with the steering wheel of his "car". 

Hubby took off Johan's shirt so the cut hair won't stick to it. The barber then put a towel around Johan so he won't get cold and to keep the hair from falling down his body.

But Johan kept on tugging at it, wanting to take it off. Hubby and I noticed it was because his hands were trapped inside and he can't hold the steering wheel. So, in the end he had his haircut looking like this:

He was well-behaved all throughout and just stole a couple or so glances at the barber but he never cried. He remained seated, happily steering his wheel and watched Barney sing and dance. When the session ended, look at how handsome my little boy turned out!

One Year Ago

One year ago, lying down on a cold operating room table, I honestly thought my life is ending. Little did I know that I haven't really lived until that moment. 

Dear Johan,

It's been a year since that day in October when I was woken up by a gush of warm fluid. Exactly a year has passed since I undergone 17 long hours of serious pain and discomfort. A year has passed since I heard your first cry.

I still could not believe that so much time has passed. We're having so much fun we didn't notice the days go by and now you turn one.

I know I am not the perfect mom - there are times when my patience is running thin and I had to put some space between us to allow myself to breath. Being a mom is no joke, it's not easy but I love it because I am a mom to you.

You are the perfect miracle that I was praying to be blessed with and everyday I thank the Lord for you. You are the reason why me and Daddy are always filled with a deeper sense of joy and contentment. We are finally complete.

I am so proud of every milestone that you achieved. I am in utter bliss whenever you smile at me. There is nothing I can ever ask for. Nothing.

Becoy, you made mine and Daddy's lives happier with your presence. Everyday with you is always a new adventure that we look forward to.

We love you so much, Anak. Happy 1st birthday!

Johan’s 1st Birthday Suppliers’ Ratings

 Johan's birthday is October 4 but we held the party earlier on October 1. It was a Jollibee party prepped up months in advanced. Hehe! I wanted to incorporate a different theme which is Super Mario kasi and I wanted as much as possible to customize everything.

When the day came, there was Tropical Storm Quiel threatening to gatecrash the party. I was praying really hard to not make it rain too hard so that the guests will still be able to come. I was worried only a few would show up and we’ll have to take home 100+ sets of Chickenjoys. Haha! Thankfully, despite the bad weather, most of our guests showed up. So, all’s well that ends well.

There’s no doubt that Jollibee will be a huge hit with the kids. Especially when the main lead showed up, Jollibee! That’s actually one of the main reasons why I decided to go with a Jollibee party instead of a catered one. The TM Kalaw branch has by far the biggest function area that I saw. What I love about it is that the function areas are separate from the dining area. There’s less chaos, the program went smoothly without other noise coming from other diners, definitely no gatecrashers. Hehe. I gave them perfect five stars because from the day that I pencil booked with them, I experienced nothing short of superb customer service. Even without paying any reservation, they blocked my preferred date and time even if there was another mom who wanted my slot and would pay right there and then. Lorraine, my Jollibee party coordinator, made sure to take care of the littlest of things OTD – she unpacked all the loot bags that I brought and arranged them herself, she put the popcorn packs my mom brought one by one to each of the loot bags, she came up with a brilliant plan on how many extra rice exactly should I order (raise your hands everybody), how to pack the left-over food, how will I bring home the cake sans the box. She took care of the mommy-me really well. Kudos to you, Lorraine!

We got the Meal Package 1 for the kids which includes Spaghetti, Fries, Drinks and Sundaes. For the adults, we got the Value Meal which includes 1 pc Chickenjoy, Spaghetti and Softdrinks. We ordered extra rice for those who requested one. Four stars only because even though the Chicken is still hot and crispy, the Spaghetti’s already cold.

When I started planning for the party, I really wanted a two-layered customized cake for Johan. But when I inquired at some cake suppliers, their prices are steep!  Even a small customized one is expensive. So, I decided to just go with cupcakes and customize those using toppers which I will be making. Then came Mimma Benz’s call for wishes for a Fairy Godmother, I immediately sent her an email wishing for a cake for Johan. Just a day after, I already got a Fairy Godmother in the person of Anne who is willing to provide the customized Super Mario cake for Johan. Four stars only because we had a slight problem in picking up the cake. Days before the party, Anne’s daughter got admitted in the hospital so that made it impossible for her to bring the cake and attend the party. I was left with the options: get the cake from the supplier’s place in Commonwealth or hope that the supplier agrees to a meet-up.  It was impossible to get the cake from Commonwealth because we’re all coming from the South (Cavite and Laguna) and my cousin who is willing to meet up with the cake supplier is not familiar in the Commonwealth area. I was already giving up that we will have a cake on the day by 7pm on Friday because Portia has not texted me back since morning when I last sent her a text message. Thankfully by 8pm, she agreed to a meet up. Yay!

Cupcakes: MJ's Homemade Cakes and Patries

MJ is a former officemate’s friend. I ordered cupcakes from MJ before for Johan’s Christening. Her prices are the cheapest and it does not sacrifice the taste of her cupcakes. She’s located in Las Pinas and very easy to deal with. We only coordinated through text messages and she did not even ask for a down payment.  We paid COD. Four stars only because I asked her to make three dozen cupcakes in red, blue and green icing. The blue and green ones are perfect but the red ones turned out pink. Just a small thing but it would have been better to have red ones because Super Johan, err, Super Mario's costume is in blue and red.
