Daydreaming

On my way home from work, I usually pass by this very pretty view of a classy subdivision in Dasmarinas. It looks very dreamy and cut straight out of a magazine. The houses are super nice with their pastel colors and cement roof tiles.

I saw this again today and it just makes me dream of our future home. I know it won’t happen anytime soon as we’re still paying for the car loan up to year 2016 but I know it’ll happen. Whether we purchase our own lot and build our home or renovate the one we’re living in today and make a comfortable living set up for everyone, it doesn't really matter as long as my family of three is together.

Someday, someday, I know I'll own you.

Dreaming of a home

I know it’s not possible to purchase a house now or anytime soon given the many expenses (with prenatal care, meds and child birth on the way) and the fact that only one of us is earning. But still, I would not deprive myself of dreaming about it as this is one of those things that I was really looking forward to and was praying for hubby to agree with me on.

My reasons are simple and for me, reasonable enough. Forgive me if this ends up in listing all my rants. :)

    • I want to learn to be independent. To be able to learn how to cook and care for my own family. My MIL is great for helping us out with the household chores now that I’m pregnant but I want to be able to do everything on my own.
    • I want to move freely – to buy stuff without having someone telling me how expensive they are, without someone counting how many shoe boxes I have stacked in our room, to watch my fave TV shows and not have someone change channels on the TV that we bought which is btw running on the electricity that we are paying for every month.
    • I want to raise my kid on my own rules. Sure, I want his grandparents to spoil him and buy him things that we wouldn’t buy for him but I would have to have the last say as to what he will be eating, what shows to watch, what books to read. I don’t believe much in superstitions so there’s no point in raising my kid under some old wives’ tale.
    • I want to use my own silverware, my own china, my own cookware.
    • My house won’t have pets inside especially dogs and cats whose fur sticks to everything from the sofa, to the throw pillows, to your clothes.
    • I want to pay for the electricity that only my family consumed.
    • I want to stock on food and not have them eaten by someone who is just so “tamad” and “irresponsible” to buy his own.
    • I want my own sheets, my own curtains, my self chosen wall paint.
    • I want our own pictures on side tables and my books on shelves.
    • Finally, I just want a place that my own family can live peacefully in, a place where we can build dreams and memories, a place we could come home to after a long day at work. Just that. I just want a home.

Looking Ahead

Just recently, Hubby and I had a serious talk about moving. Even before we learned I was pregnant, I already told him that I do not want to raise a kid where we are currently living. The environment in this place is just not fit to raising kids.

We decided it is time to move somewhere else and we plan on doing it next year before our kid turns one. We need to save up for my delivery in October first and then we need to buy a car before Christmas so we won't have a hard time bringing the baby around. We plan to have the renovation of their Cavite house started by summer of 2011. The lower floor will be for my parents-in-law while we will be occupying the upper floor/s.

Ever since it has been decided, I have been searching the net for home decorating ideas. Talk about getting excited! Particularly, all I have been searching for are ideas for the nursery. Look at how pretty these all are and how easy it would be because these are just wall decals or stickers.

Do you notice how everything here looks like for a girl's bedroom? Now, you know what I'm praying our little one's gender would be.

I'm super excited to decorate our home and I can't wait for next year to come. For the meantime, I'm rubbing my tummy and whispering to my little one, "Don't worry. Mommy will make sure you get the prettiest room for your first birthday".

Education for the Undomesticated Me

My parents both worked when I was growing up hence the reason behind me and my siblings being raised by yayas. I was used to having my meals set already from the time I woke up until I came home after school. My clothes washed and ironed for me. Even when I left home and stayed at a dorm during college, I never washed my clothes, I would either bring home my laundry every weekends to have it washed at home or bring them to a laundry shop. Nor did I cooked my meals as me and my dorm mates would just eat out to nearby fastfood chains or canteens or if our budget won't allow it we'll just settle on the ever-reliable Century Tuna or Lucky Me Pancit Canton.

So, it is no surprise when I end up an ignorant undomesticated wife.

Cleaning is no problem for me, it's an easy task that I can perform. The hard chores for me are washing the clothes, ironing and the worst would be cooking. The first time that I washed my husband and mine's one week's load of laundry I felt really bad for myself. I felt "kawawa" because imagine the volume of clothes (shirts, jeans, jackets and even towels) and I have to do it by hand. We don't own a washing machine yet. When I was finished my back was aching, my hands looked like the hands of an old lady and I've got scratches on my wrists and fingers. It's hard but I at least did it.

Ironing is hard as it would mean standing up for at least an hour. We even bought one of those steam irons that you can see at the Home Shopping Network. You fill the tube with water, press the button and your shirt is ironed out front and back with just a few swipes. You can even hang your clothes when you use the steam iron so you don't have to use the ironing board at all. That tool is of great help to me, it makes the job easier and faster plus it is energy saving as it does not consume electricity unless you press the button.

Now, the hardest is cooking. Sure, I can fry eggs and the like, I can cook rice, I can do the famous adobo, but the taste buds of my husband's is entirely different from mine. The first time that he asked me to cook, it was tapa with gravy sauce, more like the sizzling type. Difficulty level for this dish would only be minimal as the gravy sauce is instant, you just pour in water and mix, the tapa is only fried. I don't know what I did wrong but the end product tastes like very salty, burnt tapa. Even the gravy sauce tastes different. Haha! I was fighting back tears when me and my husband were already eating because I can see that he's just forcing himself to eat what I cooked. After we ate, I immediately went to the bathroom and cried. =)

Well, at least my only problem would be cooking, my husband cooks well and I know that he'll do that willingly for as long as when I learned how to cook just so he won't have to endure another of my cooking disasters. Maybe I'll borrow my mom's cookbooks or maybe I'll enroll in a culinary class. Dream on... Haha!
